The Center for Medicinal Chemistry (CQMED) at the University of Campinas (São Paulo, Brazil) is offering two positions for post-doctoral researchers to work on drug discovery in reproductive biology and disease. This is part of the inaugural SGC initiative Women’s and Children’s Health Program, funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.

Position 1 – Human genetic fertility diseases

The researcher will be part of a multidisciplinary team in Prof. Dr. Fabio Papes’ lab (LGE/Institute of Biology and CQMED) at UNICAMP. This project aims to study human genetic diseases that affect fertility. The project involves molecular biology and cell biology techniques, including the cultivation of human cell lines.

The requirements for this position are Ph.D. in cell biology, physiology, genetics, molecular biology, biochemistry, or similar fields, besides consolidated experience in in vitro cell culture and molecular biology techniques. It is desirable that the candidate knows how to prepare DNA constructs for gene expression in human cells, CRISPR/Cas9 methodology, protein expression in mammalian cells, culture and manipulation of induced pluripotent stem cells, basics of transcriptomic analysis via bioinformatics approaches, and notions of R and Python programming languages.

Position 2 – Translation control regulation of gametogenesis

The researcher will investigate the molecular mechanisms involved in the regulation of gametogenesis by a protein linked to the translation control, but whose function is unknown. The selected person will join the research team led by Prof. Dr. Mario Bengtson (Biology Institute and CQMED) at UNICAMP (Campinas-SP).

The requirements for this position are a Ph.D. in molecular biology, biochemistry, cell biology, genetics, or related areas. Experience with protein-protein interaction analysis techniques and/or experience in the construction of next-generation sequencing libraries (such as RIP-seq, Ribo-seq, or RNA-seq) is a plus.

Both researchers must have the leadership to execute all stages of the project, from planning and conducting experiments, analyzing data, presenting lectures and seminars, and writing reports and scientific papers.

Application

Interested candidates should apply the following documents:

  •   Cover letter
  •   Resumé (CV)
  •   Undergraduate transcripts
  •   Post-graduate transcripts
  •   Details of two references (name, affiliation, and e-mail)

Position 1 – send all the documents to papesf@unicamp.br

Position 2 – fill out the form at https://www.cqmed.unicamp.br/application-form/

Selection will occur as applications are received with a deadline of May 20, 2023.

Research Fellowship:

The duration of the fellowship is 12 months (extendable). The value of the scholarship will be defined according to the candidate’s experience. The dedication to the project is full-time (40 hours/week).

CQMED is a laboratory committed to creating a multidisciplinary, stimulating, and scientifically exciting environment that allows the professional growth and participation of all people, regardless of race, creed, or gender, favoring equal opportunities.

Questions or clarifications should be sent to the email cqmedjob@unicamp.br .

About CQMED

The Center for Medicinal Chemistry – CQMED was created in 2015. It specializes in studying the early stages of new drug development by combining various methodologies that include chemical compound scanning, medicinal chemistry, biochemistry, cell biology, and protein structure determination. In addition, CQMED develops projects related to human genetic diseases, infectious diseases, and reagents for biotechnology.

CQMED is part of the Brazilian National Institutes of Science and Technology Program (INCT), supported by the National Council of Science and Technology (CNPq), Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel (Capes), and the Foundation for Research Support of the State of São Paulo (Fapesp).
